Municipal leaders need to have some of the highest communication awareness in the professional world. As assessors, the entire communities depend on our work.

As we navigate the public and the elected officials and professional partners in our organizations, a set of specific communication capacities define assessors who succeed.

Based on the content in Jon Wortmann’s best-selling book, Mastering Communication at Work (Second Edition), participants will assess their present skills and develop an awareness of what they need to work on. Skills will include impactful listening, storytelling, negotiation, and the personas of trust.

This session will provide an overview of the procedural and substantive considerations and strategies to effectively and fairly consider abatement applications while providing a strong foundation for building a defense for an appeal to the ATB.

The session speaker will discuss best practices in preparation for and during ATB Hearings. Finally, the speaker will discuss the impacts on overlays and the effect of abatement decisions on the Tax Recap. There will be an opportunity for questions and answers.

In this session, the speakers will provide an overview of the income and expense forms, typical expenses, trends and issues, triple net properties, and modeling implications.

Wednesday, June 23, 2021 | 9:00 – 10:00 am

This session will provide an overview of new technologies, their use, and best practices, such as the utilization of lasers and LiDAR (light detection and ranging). The speaker will discuss sketch validation and how it can be done in conjunction with these technologies and provide an overview of a typical inspection and virtual exterior inspection from the Department of Revenue standpoint.

In this session, the Registry of Motor Vehicles’ speakers will discuss their web-based application (ATLAS), excise run calendar and update, recommitments, business process updates, garaging address, plate cancellations, COVID-19 Impact on the RMV. The session will conclude with a questions and answers segment.

This session provides a comprehensive definition of Personal Property vs. Real Property. The session will explore various methods of discovery.

Valuation methodology includes 1) Effective methods of processing Personal Property Renditions and estimating a value for non-filers of Personal Property Renditions.

The discussion will continue with the validation of renditions through audit and concludes with a discussion on obsolescence, including considerations related to COVID.

This session will address two areas, the latest valuation and administrative updates and DLS Gateway changes.

In the first segment, the speaker will provide an overview of the latest valuation and administrative updates for the upcoming FY2022.

In the second segment, the speaker will address DLS Gateway changes for FY2022, new Databank products to help analyze your community’s financial position, and what’s new on the DLS website.

The communication strategies we use to develop relationships define the way in which information flows from our work. You can’t lead effectively–whether a change process, a crisis, or in ordinary time–unless you know who you are as a leader, your organization’s structure, and the best way to influence what happens next.

Upon completing this session, attendees will recognize how leadership style and structure, personality, and different ways of influencing an organization up and wide.

In this session, the speakers will provide an overview of the types of hotels with a focus on limited-service hotels, limitations of the three approaches, land value, sales approach, income approach, what hotels look at, and standard terminologies.

This is followed by a discussion on the valuation concepts for assessors to consider when valuing limited-service hotels and ATB decisions.

This session will provide assessors a road map in reviewing single property and mass appraisals. The session will discuss the seven steps required in the review process and provide practical examples of what to look for when reviewing appraisals.
